Title: HOT Justice
Author: Lynn Raye Harris
Year of publication: Out today! I was kindly given a copy to read and review
The heroine: Journalist Haylee Jamison
The hero: HOT team member Dean “Wolf” Garner
The blurb: Dean “Wolf” Garner is the kind of guy who loves hard and leaves fast. From the moment he rescues reporter Haylee Jamison in the Guatemalan jungle, he can’t stop thinking about the dark-haired beauty. His life is too complicated for romantic entanglements though–and not even a woman like Haylee can convince him otherwise.
Haylee wasn’t supposed to be in the drug cartel’s compound, but she was captured while on a mission of her own: find the trail of fake opioids entering the US and halt the operation. Back home in DC, Haylee can’t stop thinking about the gorgeous military operator who rocked her world for one steamy night before leaving. But when she uncovers a conspiracy and finds herself in danger, there’s only one man she trusts to keep her safe.
It’s easy for Wolf to risk his life to protect Haylee and give her the justice she desires. The hard part is taking a chance and admitting what’s in his heart before it’s too late.
Before he loses the best thing that’s ever happened to him.
Standalone or series: This is book fourteen in the Hostile Operations Team series, but can be read as a standalone
The review: I’ve yet to meet a book by Lynn that I don’t absolutely love, and HOT Justice is no exception! Dean and his team are in Guatemala to rescue ten Americans there on a mission, but when they get to the rescue site there find eleven Americans being held. The eleventh hostage is a beautiful, dark-haired woman named Haylee Jamison, and when Dean saves her from being attached by a captor, she instantly places her trust in him.
The hostages are taken to El Salvador before going home, and neither Dean or Haylee can deny the attraction between them. What starts as a friendly game of pool ends in a night of passion neither of them have experienced before, and it rattles Dean. When they both make it back to US soil, they go their separate ways, much to Haylee’s disappointment.
A couple of months pass and they cross paths again. When Dean realises that Haylee is continuing on with the story that had her in Guatemala in the first place – fake drugs being trafficked into the US, some of which killed her best friend – and that certain high level politicians and businessmen could be involved, he fears for her safety.
When those fears are realised, Dean finds himself willing to do whatever he has to in order to keep the woman he can’t get off his mind safe. But his job is dangerous and not a lot of women can cope with the constant worry and uncertainty… so Haylee must decide whether she loves Dean enough to take a chance on a relationship with him, and Dean must decide if he loves her enough to fight for her. Another gripping installment in an incredible series.
